SUMMARY:JPF September Walk
DESCRIPTION:For this trip we’ll walk the 606. If you haven’t yet been there it’s highly recommended. Now that the vegetation has filled in it’s gorgeous. We’ll walk down Milwaukee to Pulaski. We’ll then walk on Pulaski a bit to Diversey and then cut over to Avers for a nice tour of Hermosa until we hit the west trail head. We’ll then walk the length of the 606 to Ashland. From there we’ll backtrack west down North Avenue until we hit “downtown” Wicker Park (North/Damen/Milwaukee). At that time it’s open ended how much further we want to walk as we’ll have easy access to 56 bus. There will obviously be many different drinking/dining options. Length from Weston’s to Wicker Park central will be around 9 miles.

DESCRIPTION:Six Corners Association\, Irving-Austin Business District\, the Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce\, and JPF are all partnering up for a Holiday Trolley around the Northwest Side for Small Business Saturday! \n\n\n\nWe are making it easier than ever to #livelifelocally this holiday season! \n\n\n\nOn Saturday Nov. 30th 2 Trolleys will travel a route through Jefferson Park\, Portage Park\, 6 Corners\, and Irving-Austin stopping at participating local businesses. You can ride the trolley and swing into local businesses to take advantage of their deals and giveaways for Small Business Saturday.  \n\n\n\nThe event will kick off with a breakfast with Santa at Gale Street Inn\, 4914 N. Milwaukee Ave at 10am. The trolley will begin running at 11am and travel a scheduled route until 5pm. The event will end at Foundation Tavern\, 5007 W. SUMMARY:JPF January Walk
DESCRIPTION:Yes\, you can walk in January.  Since it’s possible it could be chillier\,  this walk will be a little shorter.  While your legs might not get as much of a workout your bladders will.  We’ll be doing a coffee shop tour roughly mirroring the Holiday Trolley route.  We’ll meet up at Weston’s for the first round.  After that we’ll head west towards Austin and make our way south towards Irving Park where we’ll stop at Perkolator.  After that it’s east on Irving to stop at Portage Grounds.  Then it’s on towards Cicero to head up Milwaukee for a stop at Fannie’s.  At that point\, if it’s really nice out\, we could proceed to Finom. Total distance will be 5-6 miles.

DESCRIPTION:The JPF Community Development Committee is proud to host Mr. Ed Bannon for our winter salon.  \n\n\n\nWhat’s a salon?\n\n\n\nA salon is a gathering of people to increase knowledge of a particular topic through conversation. Salons are in the tradition of the French literary and philosophical movements of the 17th and 18th centuries that facilitated the exchange of ideas. The JPF Community Development Committee is continuing in the tradition in Jefferson Park by facilitating a discussion of topics related to subjects in which the Committee is interested in. \n\n\n\nWinter Salon Topic – Main Street\n\n\n\nThe Main Street approach blends historical preservation and architectural appreciation with a forward-looking byproduct of economic development. The effect is to create positive energy in communities from place-making and the adaptive re-use of historic buildings. This approach shows how value and new development springs from preservation and community engagement. In terms of the historic built environment\, beyond “Let’s Save It!” the Main Street approach suggests what should we do with it. Distinguished guest speaker Ed Bannon is an entrepreneurial mentor who has been a journalist and economic development director across the northwest side. He is formerly the managing editor at Lerner Newspapers\, director of the Six Corners Association\, and development coordinator in the 45th Ward.  The Jefferson Park Forward Salon Program organizes seasonal\, enlightening talks on community development topics with a focus on continuing education and discussion among neighbors.

DESCRIPTION:A February 29th walk only comes around once every 4 years so we can’t pass up this opportunity.  For this walk our destination will be the grave site of Alexander Robinson (AKA Che Che Pin Qua) and his family.  The family plot is just north of Lawrence on East River Road.  We’ll head straight west and will use Foster on the way out and Lawrence on the way back.   \n\n\n\n“Refreshment” opportunities are a little limited (Landmark off Foster and Mullen’s off Lawrence)\, if there’s other options please chime in. Round trip is roughly 10 miles.  If need be the West Lawrence bus runs out to Cumberland on Saturday’s.  We’ll meet at Weston’s.
